Greg Chambers updates you after 2 years of solo consulting

It’s been two years since I started Chambers Pivot Industries, and it’s time for another update.

Last year I sent a list of “The 3 Most Surprising Lessons” from my first year of consulting.
(If you missed that, the abridged version:
– the word “consultant” has multiple meanings
– self-confidence is contagious
– borrowing from different industries works
)

This year I have something new to talk about.

My books.

The first book is about my life as the Mad Gringo. It’s tentatively titled, “The Legend of Mad Gringo: Had Epiphany on Beach, Quit Corporate Job, Lugged Shirt Boxes Around, Lived to Tell the Tale” and it’s going to be available at the beginning of the year.

I am doing this via “The Long Adios,” the Kickstarter campaign for Mad Gringo’s Final Tropical Shirt. You can help me by sending this link to all of your tropically challenged friends.

It even comes with a little video describing the project.

Sure it’s an elaborate ruse to get the Mad Gringo book published, but you have to work with what you have on hand, right?

“But Greg, you said ‘books’ plural, right?”

Yes. Books. Plural.

The second book is a business book.”Predictable Growth with a 21st Century Rainmaker Team” will follow the Mad Gringo book and it will focus on stories of Professional Service firms that developed advanced business development efforts and use them as a competitive advantage.

The third book is actually a series of “e-booklets.” Small stories that focus on a single business development topic. “Ring It Up! Sell More Services by Making Better Initial Calls” and “Make it Be! How to Change Your Job outlook in Less Than 30 Days” are ready for launch with many, many more in progress on topics like email, voicemail, Google Analytics,pay-per-click ads, managing proposals etc.

They take time to produce, but by this time next year the books and the booklets will be out for public consumption. Exciting stuff.

That’s the update for the second year.

I’ll end like I normally do, with a three part request. First, if you have questions about your projects with consultants, use me as a sounding board. Second, if you have a needfor sales/marketing expertise, let me take personal responsibility for helping you. Third, if you know of anyone I should talk to, I’d be honored if you put me in touch with them.

And tell someone about The Long Adios. Everyone needs more tropical shirts.

(in case you’re wondering: Laura is still hanging in there, my eldest daughter is working in Madrid, the eldest son is running track at SLU, and the youngest son is a freshman in HS. . .and Wilson the amazing border collie is successfully protecting the perimeter. Every day.)

Good stuff.
